Mark Cocker
Jonathan Cape, £14.99
This book – a compilation of a year's daily observation of the wildlife and landscape in the Norfolk village where the author lives – is exceptional. Cocker moves smoothly between describing and commenting on birds, mammals, insects and plants and their habitats, using a lyrical prose that captures and holds the reader's attention and had this reviewer constantly wishing for more. Beautifully illustrated by Jonathan Gibbs' woodcuts, this is a book to be treasured.
