The Biologist Vol 62(1) p12-14
The Society recently launched Biology Now, a one-day conference which took place in November, exploring three key themes in the life sciences: tackling human health challenges, genomic and 'big' data, and 'people and planet'.
The Society's President, Dame Jean Thomas FSB, opened the event by paying tribute to biochemist Fred Sanger, who had inspired much of her work on the intricate packaging structure of chromosomes. She said Sanger's work on protein sequencing revolutionised molecular biology and was "as important to biology as Charles Darwin" and biologists were doing some of the "most exciting things in science" in collaboration with chemists and physicists.
