A workshop on the interplay between cell mechanics and metabolism from The Company of Biologists

This four-day workshop, led by experts in cellular mechanics and metabolism from institutions including the AIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology, Institut Curie, and The Institute of Cancer Research, explores the intricate relationship between mechanical forces and cellular metabolism. Through a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, the workshop will focus on how mechanical forces shape cellular metabolic processes and how metabolic reprogramming, in turn, influences cellular mechanics.

Participants will engage in discussions on the integration of mechanical forces and metabolism across various biological scales, from organelles to tissues and systemic organismal responses. The programme is designed to foster interdisciplinary collaborations across cell biology, biophysics, and immunology to accelerate discoveries in this emerging field.

The event is aimed at researchers working on cellular mechanics, metabolism, or related fields with a strong interest in cross-disciplinary approaches. Ideal participants will have experience in biophysics, cellular biology, or theoretical physics.

Topics covered include:
  • Integration of mechanics and metabolism at the organelle level
  • Junctional mechanics and metabolic regulation across tissues
  • Mechano-metabolic modulation of the genome
  • Immuno-mechano-metabolisms in tissue microenvironments and pathophysiology
  • Emerging technologies for quantifying mechanical forces

Audience

10 funded places are offered to early-career researchers (PhD, postdocs and PPIs for the first three years of their appointment) to attend the workshops along with the 20 invited speakers.

Applications, including a CV and a letter of support, are due by 13 December 2024
