A workshop on the evolution and development of plant stem cells The Company of Biologists.
This four-day workshop, led by experts in plant biology from Utrecht University and the Sainsbury Laboratory, offers an in-depth exploration of the evolutionary and developmental mechanisms driving plant stem cell plasticity. Through a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, the workshop will focus on experimental and computational modelling approaches to understanding plant stemness.
Participants will engage in discussions on the evolution of plant development, the selection of novel model systems, and integrating experimental data with computational models. The programme is designed to foster cross-system and cross-disciplinary collaborations to accelerate discoveries in plant stem cell research.
The event is aimed at researchers working on plant stem cells, with a strong interest in combining experimental and computational methods. Ideal participants will have experience in plant biology, computational modelling, or evolutionary biology.
Topics covered include:
- Evolution of plant development: conservation, co-option, and modification
- Stem cell generalities and specificities across land plants
- Evolutionary aspects of selecting novel model systems
- Bridging experimental and computational approaches to advance plant stem cell research
Audience
10 funded places are offered to early-career researchers (PhD, postdocs and PPIs for the first three years of their appointment) to attend the workshops along with the 20 invited speakers.
Applications, including a CV and a letter of support, are due by 6 December 2024.
