The Royal Society of Biology welcomes recently appointed Government Chief Scientific Adviser (GCSA), Professor Dame Angela McLean DBE as an Honorary Fellow (Hon FRSB), in recognition of her work on mathematical models that aid our understanding of the evolution and spread of infectious agents.
Dame Angela took up the role of GCSA in April 2023, after serving as the Chief Scientific Advisor for the Ministry of Defence. She is also the head of the government science and engineering profession.
Commenting on her Honorary Fellowship, Dame Angela said: “I am delighted to join the RSB as an Honorary Fellow. Biology offers the opportunity to understand life and improve it for all. It is fundamental to providing solutions to our global challenges, from tackling infectious diseases and protecting our biodiversity to providing us with nutritious food and weathering the climate crisis.”
RSB chief executive, Dr Mark Downs CBiol CSci FRSB, said: “The RSB is delighted that Dame Angela has accepted our invitation to join the Society’s Honorary Fellowship. She has excelled in both her academic work in mathematical biology and as a policy advisor to government and we look forward to working closely with her in the future.”
