New standards for the Chartered Scientist (CSci) register have now been launched and the Royal Society of Biology is now welcoming new applications via the online application system.

The new standards introduce a more streamlined approach to the professional standards, as well as helping to support the career progression of scientists. The Society currently has around 150 individuals on the CSci register and is one of several bodies that can award the title Chartered Scientist under license from the Science Council.

CSci status recognises those who work in science at a high level and provides a benchmark for scientists working in pan-science roles. Chartered status is recognised as a hallmark of excellence in both the UK and the European Union. The Society's CSci register is open to all those committed to the biological sciences in academia, industry, education and research.

Dr Mark Downs CSci FRSB, chief executive of the Royal Society of Biology, said: “We are delighted to launch the new standards for the Chartered Scientist award. CSci prompts public confidence in professionals and gives employers confidence in their employees. By joining the CSci register, you are not only demonstrating transferable skills, but also showcasing a commitment to continuous professional development and an awareness of career progression.”
