The Society of Biology is delighted to elect its first applicants on to the Chartered Science Teacher register.

Professor Graham Scott, University of Hull, Andrew Duggan, Middlesborough College, Bob Johnston, St. Mary's College Liverpool, and Sarah Cox, Society of Biology, have achieved Chartered Science Teacher status.

Andrew Duggan said:
“I see Chartered Science Teacher as a mark of integrity. Anyone holding CSciTeach demonstrates a commitment to education and to continuous CPD. I believe that every science teacher should work towards gaining this status in order to advance science teaching.

“I found the whole process a reflective one, allowing me to explore my strengths as well things I can work towards. I personally applied to the register as a way of demonstrating my skills and expertise in science education and hope to continue doing this as my career develops.”

Via a licence from the Science Council, the Society of Biology is able to provide access to the Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach) register to members and Fellows of the Society of Biology working in primary, secondary and tertiary level education.

The register recognises the professional skills and expertise required to teach science subjects and demonstrates commitment to continual professional development.

Applications for the register are made through myRegisters within mySociety where applicants demonstrate across 12 competencies the impact that they have made on students' learning, how they have developed as educators and have supported their colleagues.
